What can you expect at these events?

Participants have the opportunity to learn about the art of woodturning at this free, hands-on event. Members of the Eastern Connecticut Woodturners will be set up to guide attendees through turning their very own pen that they can take home with them.

What is the cost?

There is no cost to the host or participants. Volunteers from the Eastern CT Woodturners donate their time to promote the art of woodturning.

How long is the event?

Events are typically scheduled from 10 am – 2 pm with an hour before and after designated for setup and takedown.

How much time should a participant expect to plan to turn a pen?

On average, turning a pen and assembly will take approximately 30 minutes, but this time may vary depending on experience and design choices.

Should we pre-book or take walk-ins?

Pre-booking appointments keeps participants' flow moving along and reduces overall wait times. We recommend that hosts schedule 3 per half hour to allow room for walk-ins and sessions that run long. Pre-booking also ensures we know what to expect and bring enough equipment and instructors to ensure everyone has the same opportunity to participate.

How much room is needed to host an event?

Each station will require an approximate six feet by six feet or larger space to ensure enough room for instructors and participants to work safely. Access to power will be required for each station. Typical events require five or more stations, which will be determined based on expected participants.

What is the age requirement?

Participants must be the age of 12 or older to turn a pen. The lathes are equipped with safety shields so observers can watch safely.

What should you wear?

Safety glasses will be distributed to all participants and must be worn throughout the session. Long hair should be tied back, and loose jewelry or material should be removed or tucked in if possible.
